Apex Park

6/19/10

Riding up  the Apex Trail to Pick N' Sledge you will find rough as usual.  Pick N' Sledge did get some sand and small rocks washed on to it next week so you will find a few more soft spots than normal.  Taking a right on to the Grubstake Loop you will once again find dry and hard packed conditions.  The only thing to be aware of is that there are some sections of the trail that have a layer of pine needles and cones that makes traction a little less then ideal.  Heading down Sluicebox and then up the Apex Trail to the the top of the park you will find great conditions  There are warning signs for trail construction but there wasn't any taking place today.  We returned basically the same way taking off the Grubstake Loop and riding the full length of Pick N' Sledge.  The section we missed on the way out is probably in better shape than any other part of the park.  The descent, as always was a blast.  Please note, sections of the first mile of the Apex Trail are getting quite rough.  If you are looking for a smooth trail this is not the place for you.
